Manage your expectations, but this is a blast.
If they would have had this thing when I was a kid (a few decades back), I would have gone crazy with it. It is a TOY, not a real scientific instrument, but it’s the kind of toy that can good and truly make a kid fall in love with science. It turns the world into a puzzle–What would that thing look like if I were the size of an ant? It offers the ability to capture and share images, and compare them with each other. This little device is flawed–I wish it were a little bit easier to use, the instructions could be more comprehensive and easy to understand, and I’ve only had it for two days so I can’t vouch for its durability but suspect considerable care will be required to protect it–but for an 8- to 14-year-old child, this is a portal into interesting worlds, and a possible introduction to science and nature that could result in a lifelong appreciation of discovery. I don’t want to praise it too much or someone could order it and be disappointed that it’s not more than advertised, but I just want to get across the point that, limitations and all, I found the thing to be pretty delightful.

Fun For Everyone
This is a great toy for the whole family. Once you get the focusing part down and taking a picture at the same time, it is great. We also bought some pre-made slides that are great to look at as well. Have not used the video function yet, but that should be pretty cool once we get there. Great toy for Christmas.

Oh what fun!
After playing with this toy at a friend’s, (I am 37 and the toy belonged to a 6 yr. old) I decided to purchase it as a gift for our good friend’s 5 yr. old. I think the adults at the party had just as much fun as the kids. I highly recommend it. It’s so cool to see things magnified (clothes, carpet, dog hair).

Fantastic Edutainment Toy
A friend said his daughter (10) wanted a microscope and I suggested that he consider the Eyeclops instead. Then I realized that I hadn’t reviewed it. [I mention this so you know that I really like the Eyeclops; enough to recommend it to friends]

Last year my SIL bought this for the children and I have to say the whole family has used it and enjoyed it. My husband has used it to read tiny inscriptions on jewelry. I’ve used it in conjunction with the kids’ science unit on crystals — we looked at salt and sugar. And, of course, we’ve used it to look at untold numbers of warts, moles, freckles and scabs.

To use it you just take it out of the box and plug it into the television. What you see is a magnified image on the television screen. This ability to share is something you can’t do with most moderately priced microscopes. The picture is in color, although every once in awhile it will be in black and white. We haven’t figured out why that happens but it’s usually fixed by jiggling the connections.

Magnification-wise there’s not a great many options, but you can go up to about four hundred which is good enough for youngsters to learn more about the world around them. It’s a cool edu-tainment toy … and it’s a heck of alot easier to look at scabs if you don’t have to cut them off your body and put them on a slide

The whole family loves it!
My 6 yr old son got this as a gift, and although I was skeptical at first, I have now eaten my words. It is a breeze to set up, and once you do, the view is great! My son looked at the carpet, and it was really clear and looked like a microscope. We also looked at his hair, my husbands hands, paper, chicken etc. We went crazy!

Anyone that even slightly enjoys science will love this toy.

pretty cool accesory for the eye clops
If you are going to purchase the eye clops, this accesory kit is a must-have. At first I thought there was nothing to see on the map and it was no good..til I found my first hidden phrase. It is a good value for the money and a great addition to the purchase of the eye clops. They should sell this with the eye clops because it is really pretty cool to explore the maps and find hidden stuff on them!

Good toy…bad value
This kit is really great, but completely overpriced for what is contained in the kit. It is simply a few sheets of paper. Very expensive paper!
