Love the Funny Remote!5
We bought this for our daughter when she was 9 months, and she still loves it at 15 months. Our family loves the humor built into all the Sesame Street programs and toys, and this remote is no different. The volume key actually works to incrementally turn up or down the volume of the toy and the big Monster eyes are a hit with the little one, they make a cute “power on / power off” noise when you hit the button on the side. She always liked to open and shut the eyes with her finger and I think this helped refine her control of her index finger.

The best part of the remote is that it has saved us from numerous tantrums as it is very easy to throw in the diaper bag.

Great Developmental Toy!5
This is a winner! Its mostly taken the place of the real remotes in the house – which is great! I find it comical that some of the other parent review have said this toy is “not educational” or not much for “brain development”. People – toddlers learn by playing. That is how their little brain develop. A toy remote is not a set of flashcards, but thankfully toddlers don’t require flashcards to learn and develop their brains.

Adorable! Looks like a real remote that kids always love to play with!5
After searching for some time for a play remote for our daughter, we found this at a local Walmart store. It’s EXACTLY what I had been looking for!

Looks close enough to the real thing that your baby shouldn’t be too disappointed when you swap your real remote with this one.

My daughter loves how the blue eyelids close.

All the buttons makes SEVERAL sounds – the volume buttons on it actually do turn it up and turn it down in volume!

Her favorite button to push is the number 6 because it plays cute music.

Teaches numbers.

I always bring this with when we travel in the car or shopping at the mall. Small enough to fit in your purse, but big enough to occupy their time for a while!

VERY durable – I can’t count the number of times it’s been thrown around and dropped and it works perfectly!

I just love it! The batteries seem to last forever in it too which is a huge plus!

Buy it, you’ll love it! We’ve had ours for well over a year now, it’s in perfect shape, and our 19 month old still loves it.

My 14-month-old Loves It!5
We just got this in the mail two days ago and my son loves it. My son was so excited and wanted to get on it before I even had it put together. It’s a very cool and innovative idea. It’s very easy to assemble as long as you have a screwdriver. I think my son is tall for his age but he is still on his toes unless he has shoes on. He has fallen a couple times when he’s not paying attention or holding something instead of holding on but hasn’t hurt himself.

1st Birthday Gift – GREAT!5
My daughter first saw this toy at her daycare and loved it right away. (So did many of the other children at her daycare, the line to play is always long) We decided she’d like one for home so she got it as a gift for her 1st birthday.

Like other reviewers have said she was so excited that she wanted to ride on it while I was putting it together. She plays with it everyday and even her 4 year old sister loves to play with her. The 4 year old is too big too ride it, but she loves to stand behind her sister and push on the zebra’s sneakers to help my 1 year old bounce.

At 1, my daughter’s feet barely touch the floor so to make it bounce she either needs her sisters help or she bounces her butt in the seat (not using her feet). The only problem with her bouncing in the seat is the toy tends to slide forward with each bounce. But even with it sliding it has never tipped and with the extra wide base I don’t think that it will be a problem.

She can get off the zebra with no problem (which is adorable to watch) but getting back on she needs a little boost. With the way kids grow though I’m sure she’ll be able to do it on her own real soon.

This is a great toy to grow with. My good friend’s son, who is 2, has one and still plays with his all the time. My 4 year old daughter would LOVE to ride on it, but she’s close to the weight limit so we won’t let her. But that says a lot for how fun the toy is when its appealing from age 1 to age 4.

The songs the toy plays are cute, and it also makes som galloping and horse breathing noises that are really funny. It has 2 volume levels to chose from which is also nice. The barrel in the front has beads that spin around and lights that flash. My 1 year old loves that part just as much as the bouncing.

I highly recommened this toy!

baby loves it5
We bought this for our baby’s first birthday. It has been three months now and she has used it every single day!! Once she learned to get on it (she figured it out the first day) – she was riding away. It is also very amusing to watch, so everyone is entertained with this toy. When I looked at the box – I was worried about it tipping, but that has not happened and I do not see how it could. The base is heavy and wide, yet it does not take up alot of room. If you have a baby who is very active – I highly recommend this Zebra.

Solid product – plus a tech tip4
We have tried a few ‘early computer learning toys’ and found them wanting. This is the first one I have seen that is properly interactive, bug free, and well built.

My kid is only 2, so he is officially too young. But frankly, he has mastered the paint part of it already; he is quickly learning the rest.

A few technical points:

1. Yes, its like a USB keyboard but it does not act as a keyboard if the software is not running. So, the kid is not going to be able to mess with your PC outside of the software–a good thing. The software auto-launches and closes with the on-keyboard “power button” so the kid can start it up without help. My kid is 2 yrs old and learned that fast.

2. The tablet is like a tablet, not a mouse. Its position on the screen is absolute rather than relative. It might take the adult (me) a bit to get used to. My kid finds it easy, but he doesn’t have 20 years of habit to overcome :) .

3. The docs are evasive about where the kids drawings are saved. Here is the answer for Windows XP users:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Fisher-Price\Computer
Cool School\US\User0\Base

The ‘Application Data’ directory is normally hidden. Substitute ‘User0′ with the relative position on the log in screen. The files are regular .png graphics files. Fair warning: don’t change these files. The software won’t expect that. This is simply a hint for making a copy of them to email to friend/grandparents :) .

If there is any downside to this thing, it is that it contains a limited amount of content. The kid hasn’t explored all of it yet, but I suspect I’ll end up buying the software expansions.

—————
FOLLOW-UP: A few friends of mine have tried running this product with Windows Vista. Very buggy. I only now recommend this for XP users. Typical of many toy manufacturers, they simply don’t get software. It is not a “make once and forget about it” thing. You have to keep and plan for updates as the industry changes. The price they sell it to distributors for should account for those future costs.

Great for kids under 3 too!5
I bought this when it was first released for my 2 1/2 year old. I hooked it up to my old Dell with Windows XP (this is not Mac compatible – and I converted to iMac in Dec). I bought the additional Dora & Diego software, and the Clifford software will be installed on her 3rd birthday in 10 days.

She LOVES this thing! I LOVE THIS THING! It keeps her busy, and she easily mastered all the navigating. The first month we had it, the old Dell had no sound – she still managed to use it and enjoy it in silence. Now, I almost wish I hadn’t gotten the sound fixed! HA!

I’ll definitely purchase the additional software to keep the variety in the activities.

The only problems I’ve encountered: sometimes a warning pops up that the keyboard cannot be detected. I just unplug it and plug it back in. Problem fixed. The cards that are the templates for writing are very slick and impossible to stack neatly – get a small basket or something for them.

I’ve found it quite durable.

The best feature for parents is that it requires a password to exit the program, so if you install this on your main computer, the child cannot get out of the Cool School program and into your computer! Brilliant!
