Better than ever!5
We owned a Leapter L-Max that quit working due to an “accident.” Because our 3 year old has loved and used that machine several times a day we had to replace it. He had learned so much from the previous Leapster and the reviews of the V-Smile were poor, so we decided to go with another Leapster. While we did go back and forth about whether we wanted another L-Max for the TV play capability or whether we wanted the online funcitonality of this new Leapster 2. We had to put some thought into which feature, the TV or online, we would use most. We decided that we would really like the ability to track learning progress on line and that for $10 less, we would rather have that function. We also decided to look for a Leapster TV system, which we found on clearance, to replace the TV play capability of the old L-Max, so he could still use all the games on the TV and yet have 2 seperate toys and develop the motor skills of the 2 systems instead of one. This new Leapster is SO cute. The colors are great, the shape is better than the old ones, in my opinion. The stylus pen is secured by a thin fabric like cord rather than a heavy electronics cord, so it is easier to maneuver and it doesn’t seem like it will break as easily. The sound is better and the screen is just as nice, if not better. We are very happy with this purchase, and our son likes it too. We have not tried the other games yet, but his old ones work just fine, as they are supposed to. I would defintitely recommend this model. I will also update the review when I have used the online functions.

IF YOUR HAVING A HARD TIME CHOOSING PIXTER OR LEAPSTER….5
Okay I thought I was doing SO great. I found the color pixter in a store and bought it for my 6 and 5 year old. I bought all the color cartridges also. I thought I was done xmas shopping. Then yesterday at the store. What do I see but the Leapster. I almost felt ill. I didn’t know what to do. So I went home and opened the pixter and put my batteries in and started to play. But let me tell you that toy is in that box so not even houdini himself could get it out unless he has a screwdriver. Yeap you need a screwdriver. ugh. First off the directions aren’t that great. I was playing and trying to figure out the tool bar. Kinda hard. Then when I was trying to put clothes on Barbie they would land on her head and I would try to bring them down and the kept adding the same dress over and over onto the screen. I’m a smart women and I had a real hard time with this stuff. Then I was trying to do other things and theres NO education value at all to this. Expect if you like to doodle and draw. So off I went to buy leapster. I was thrilled I opened the box. NO SCREWS. It came right out. it turned on and its having me count, do my abc’s learning money (spongebob cartridge) I thought I was going to have a hard time choosing. No way leapster is my gift to the kids. They will love it. There are more cartridges in color, like Dora and a baseball one and how to write. Leap frog explains everything you need to do. It has an AC adaptor if you want to buy one. You can put headphones in. The screen has adjustment. Pixter does not and its too light. Hard to see the object. Okay so if you hawing and hemming let my goof be your blessing! Its great. The only thing is that it says up to age 8. I really hope they make cartridges pass this age. Because I’m tired of buying leap baby, leap preschool, leap pad, leap pad plus writing. We need something to go with our child for a while. Please let it be this its so much more educational then a game boy! Thank you leapfrog you never disappoint. Back tommorow I go to return pixter and to find more leapster cartridges!!!!! Signed the leapster addict! j/k :) Merry shopping to ya all!

Even better than expected!5
My children ages three and four already own just about every Leap Frog toy out there. I decided to purchase the Leapster for Christmas, because they have started to get into video and computer gaming and also enjoy their Leap Pad very much. I test ran the Leapster yesterday and I was really impressed. The color monitor turned out bigger than expected and the graphics are great. Everything is easily accessible thanks to the touch screen. The whole concept behind the product is definitely very similar to all the other Leap Frog items. The same voices and characters as in the Leap Pad books are used. Overall, the system is more than worth the money. I already ordered additional cartridges (Dora, Kindergarten) and can’t wait until more will be available. Happy Holidays!

Great for Speech-Delayed kids!5
My 4-year-old daughter is a former micropreemie and as a result, she is profoundly delayed, non-verbal/non-sign, and has autistic traits and sensory integration dysfunction (SID/DSI). She functions at about a 15-month old level. She got this toy for her birthday and it is AMAZING!!! She is identifying letters…if I say, “where’s the K?” she’ll put the K magnet in the toy. Since she has autistic traits, she likes repetition, and this is the perfect thing! She is even starting to say some letter sounds like, “mmm, mmm, mmm”. She has MANY Leap Frog toys, and this is another great one to add to the list!! My daughter licks *everything* in sight, including the letter magnets of this toy, and it has not affected the ability of this toy to work.

*** Note to parents/friends of Autistic/SID/DSI kids – My daughter “stims” on several of her toys, but this one doesn’t cause her to do it as bad. She sometimes likes to push the button of the toy without a letter tile to hear it go “blingy, bling”, and sometimes will push the letter tile/magnet repeatedly at the beginning of the song so it goes, “A/A/A/A…A says/A says…but like I said, not as bad as with other auditory toys. ***

I do find that I have the “A says ah and A says ayy” song in my head a lot. There are two volume settings and an off switch. However, even on the low setting this toy is awfully loud. We put clear packing tape over the speaker and that helped a lot. The ABC song and the letter sounds song are the ones you will find on other Leap Frog toys and the Leap Frog videos. This is good if you want reinforcement…which my daughter needs.

The magnets are nice and strong. If they come off the fridge, they aren’t too bad to step on either :-o ! …unlike the “traditional” letter/number magnets.

The toy is very multisensory – kinesthetic, auditory, visual (color/letter), and tactile. Kudos to Leap Frog for another great educational toy!

My 6 year-old also likes to help his sister with this toy. He loves to arrange the letters for her and quiz her. Then he likes to spell words and teach them to her. The vowels are red and the consonants are yellow or blue. So I ask my daughter to find letters based on certain colors to increase the educational value. Unfortunately, her name has two l’s and two e’s, so we can’t spell her name with the letters.

Great toy — go buy it!5
This is a GREAT toy. My daughter is 23 months and loves playing with this toy. It’s great that it’s in the kitchen too so I can cook or clean while she plays. She has pulled it off the fridge and banged it a few times and it still works great. I love that she is learning the alphabet so early. She now recognizes letters and points them out to me. We had foam letters for the tub too, but this is the best and most fun. We love Leap Frog!

great toy5
This is an amazing product. My mother purchased it for my 1 year old at Christmas, and even though she doesn’t understand it yet on an educational level, it works on her motor skills because she has to pick the letters off of the fridge and put them correctly in the spot for them. She then gets the reward of listening to it sing to her. My four year old daughter will sit in front of the refrigerator for what seems like forever and just arrange the letters in order while she sings the alphabet song along with the toy. My oldest daughter who is six will sometimes even go to the magnets when she is stuck on a reading word and I tell her to sound it out. Lastly, every child that comes to our house is drawn to the magnets. They all love it, and so do I !
